While Kenny's at school it is important for him to be in the company of an adult (teacher or other staff member) who is aware of his condition. Before school begins in September I would like to arrange a meeting with everyone who may be in charge of Kenny's class. This will include his teacher and any T.A.'s who will be with him in his class, the French teacher and any other teacher who takes the class regularly.
During this meeting, I will review the signs, symptoms and treatment of low blood sugar and I will go over how to use his meter.
I will provide an emergency bag of diabetes supplies (see School Supplies) that will be kept in the classroom, as well as a detailed information booklet outlining all of Kenny's diabetes care. I will also provide letters for nutrition break supervisors, and substitute teachers.
